Collection: Scar Care
Physician-formulated scar care for surgical, acne, burn, and post-procedure scars. Dr. Rusnak Wellness scar treatments are designed to support the body's natural healing process — softening raised tissue, reducing visible discoloration, and improving the overall texture of scars old and new.
Our scar care line draws on Dr. Cecilia Rusnak's clinical work with oncology patients, veterans, and paramedical tattoo clients — populations whose scars demand both efficacy and gentleness. Every formula is vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, and built around evidence-supported ingredients including medical-grade silicone, vitamin E, and calming botanical extracts.
How silicone scar gel works
Medical-grade silicone is widely considered the gold standard in over-the-counter scar care. When applied to a closed wound, silicone forms a breathable, semi-occlusive barrier that helps hydrate scar tissue, normalize collagen synthesis, and reduce the appearance of raised, thickened, or discolored scars. Clinical literature supports silicone as a first-line option for both hypertrophic and keloid scar management.

Frequently asked questions
When should I start using silicone scar gel after surgery?
Most clinicians recommend starting silicone gel once the incision is fully closed and any scabs have naturally come off — typically two to three weeks after surgery. Always follow your surgeon's specific guidance.
How long does silicone scar gel take to work?
Visible changes in scar texture and color typically appear after 60 to 90 days of consistent twice-daily use. Older scars may need longer; newer scars often respond more quickly.
Can I use scar gel with sunscreen?
Yes — in fact, you should. UV exposure can darken healing scars. We recommend layering the Healing Support SPF 40 Sunscreen over scar gel once it has fully absorbed.
Is your scar gel safe for sensitive skin or oncology patients?
Our scar care products are fragrance-free, paraben-free, and formulated without aggressive actives that commonly irritate sensitive or compromised skin. If you are in active cancer treatment, please consult your oncology team before introducing any new topical product.
Can I use this on old scars?
Yes. Silicone is most effective on scars under 12 months old, but it can still soften and hydrate the appearance of older scars with consistent use.
