Collection: Sun Care & Sunscreens
Mineral broad-spectrum SPF formulated by a licensed physician. Sunscreen is the single most important step in any skincare routine — and the only product proven to prevent the visible effects of photoaging. The Dr. Rusnak Wellness sun care line is built around mineral filters that protect the skin without irritating sensitive, healing, or post-procedure complexions.
Dr. Cecilia Rusnak's clinical work with oncology patients and post-procedure clients informs the formulation philosophy of this line: broad-spectrum protection that's gentle enough for the most reactive skin, light enough to wear daily, and rigorous enough to recommend after procedures or to patients undergoing photosensitizing treatment.
Why mineral SPF
Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to physically reflect UV rays from the surface of the skin. They are widely recommended for:
- Sensitive, rosacea-prone, and reactive skin
- Post-procedure recovery (laser, peels, microneedling, surgery)
- Patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation, who often experience increased photosensitivity
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding, where some chemical filters are typically avoided
- Daily, year-round protection — including overcast and indoor near-window exposure
How to apply SPF correctly
- Use enough — about a quarter teaspoon for the face, or two finger-lengths of product
- Apply as the last step of your morning skincare, before makeup
- Reapply every two hours of direct sun exposure, or after swimming or heavy sweating
- Do not skip cloudy days — up to 80% of UV reaches the skin through cloud cover
- Layer over scar gel, retinol routines, and brightening serums to protect your investment in those products
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) sit on the surface and reflect UV. Chemical sunscreens (avobenzone, octinoxate, oxybenzone, etc.) absorb into the skin and convert UV to heat. Mineral filters are generally better tolerated by sensitive, post-procedure, or oncology patients.
Is SPF 40 enough?
For most daily use, yes. SPF 40 blocks roughly 97.5% of UVB radiation when applied correctly. The bigger driver of inadequate sun protection is under-application — most people use about a quarter of the amount they should.
Can I use this sunscreen after laser, microneedling, or a chemical peel?
Mineral sunscreens like the Healing Support SPF 40 are generally preferred for post-procedure use, but always follow your provider's specific timing guidance for reintroducing skincare after a procedure.
Is this sunscreen safe for oncology patients?
Mineral, fragrance-free, paraben-free sunscreens are widely recommended for cancer patients, who often experience increased photosensitivity during and after treatment. As always, confirm with your oncology team before introducing new topical products.
Will mineral sunscreen leave a white cast?
Modern mineral formulas are dramatically better than older versions. Our Healing Support SPF 40 is designed to blend in with most skin tones, though all-mineral sunscreens can leave a slight cast on the deepest complexions — apply a thin, well-rubbed-in layer for the best finish.
